Wadi Kannoubine

Welcome to the Wadi Kannoubine website. This site is dedicated by the Wadi Kannoubine Charitable Association, to unite our community in Australia and beyond. Our association requires members and we urge all descendants of Wadi Kannoubine to join us and be a part of the wonderful community service. We are a non-profit organization; most of our helpers are volunteers. We are dedicated to bring modern change to our Association while protecting our past. We want to educate the young about our history and also educate all Australians about who we are and what we represent. In today’s society people are stereotyped and not treated with respect, this is only through ignorance. We ought to stand tall, stand proud and sing our story to all. We can be proud of our heritage and we should make others  proud of us.

The main aims of our association will be the following:

  1. Bringing our community together
Putting out a life line to all our village descendants and attempt to make them feel part of a greater family, the Wadi Kannoubine family. We want to bring our people together on a regular basis so that we can identify each other, dialogue together and introduce our children to each other. The aim is to preserve our identity in this modern world so that we don’t become scattered across society as another Mr. and Mrs.Citizen.

  2. Education
We will attempt to offer education classes for all to learn about our history and heritage. We have nothing to be ashamed of, and much to be proud. Our mistake is that we have not taught our young all they need to know. This information will empower our youth and not make them feel embarrassed about their heritage. We also want to hold free Arabic classes for those that will attend. This is to encourage our youth to hold on to this precious language, a language that is very powerful in poetry, drama and historic significance.

  3. Non-profitable
Our Association is  non-profitable, all money, goods and services are for the benefit of our members and our community. We will hold fundraising, barbeques, cabarets and take donations in order to collect the money required to run and facilitate the association. No member is paid for their time or service and all money will be used for the commitment required to run the association , hold all events and assist by way of charity to people in need.

  4. Donations
Our association has pledged support to local charities and the needy members of Wadi Kannoubine. All donations will be discussed at our regular meetings and the information will be available to all members.

  5. Celebrations
As Christians we will attempt to hold celebrations for certain Christian events such as Christmas and Easter. Generally this will be a gathering at a park with a barbeque and gifts for the young. It is important to gather regularly so that we feel the love shared between us and to catch up on months of time. All are welcome and invited to attend.

  6. Security
As an association we want to make ourselves known to the Australian community and government. Therefore as we progress and with the blessing of all members our desire is to grow a capital base in Australia. This base will give us recognition and provide the vehicle to achieve our mission. All assets will be for the benefit of all and held in accordance with our rules and regulations.

  7. Our home in Lebanon
As we grow and become financially secure, we aim to support the restoration program for Wadi Kannoubine. The dreams are still in our hearts and minds and we want to restore all our old homes and maintain them for our descendants. We also want to investigate the legalities of securing our homes in our family names. This maybe a very long agenda but it is one that needs serious consideration. If not, we may find ourselves with just a memory of our once loved homes on display to the public with ourselves having to pay for the privilege .

  8. Founders
Our association was founded in 1960
We would like to recognise and thank all the founders for this wonderful legacy. We would also like to recognise all the time and effort of all  the committee members and all the volunteers over the life of the association for the work they have done. We salute you and pray, that you will continue to be a part of this wonderful community service.
